Church Description:
We are a multi-generational congregation in the North Hills of Pittsburgh with a number of young families and a vibrant children's ministry. Our youth pastor of 7 years has taken an assistant pastor role elsewhere, and we are looking for someone to take up the mantle of disicpling our youth to walk in the way of Jesus.

Position Description:
The vision of North Park Church (NPC) is to “Make disciples of Jesus who WORSHIP God passionately, CONNECT with each other in caring community, and IMPACT the world through word and deed.” Student Ministry (SM) is designed to advance that vision through students.

The Director of SM is responsible to provide leadership and administration in ministry for middle and high school students (grades 6-12). Such leadership and administration will involve working with students, parents, volunteer leaders, church staff, Session, other EPC SM workers, and school and community officials.

  • Beginning date – as soon as possible.
  • Salary and benefits to be determined based on experience, credentials, and gifting. Pay packages will be discussed at initial interview.
  • Ordination, or desire to be ordained, in the EPC is desirable but not essential. If ordained, will be called as assistant pastor.

Specific Duties

  1. Under the supervision of the Associate Pastor, lead a biblical, creative, and quality ministry (vision, mission, strategy) for students that advances the vision of NPC (Worship, Connect, and Impact).
  2. Design, coordinate, and lead an effective teaching ministry with Biblical and Reformed content as well as disciple students toward maturity and depth in Christ through a weekly student ministry meeting.
  3. Help train and equip students to develop a biblical worldview and a passion for reaching out to others with the Gospel. This would include apologetic training, Bible studies, prayer, etc.
  4. Recruit, lead, train, equip, and evaluate a team of adult leaders, teachers, and volunteers to assist with the ministry. This includes securing and monitoring necessary clearances.
  5. Recruit, lead, train, teach, equip, and evaluate a group of Student Leaders to assist with the ministry.
  6. Recruit, oversee and evaluate teachers and Sunday morning Sunday School classes for students.
  7. Help, assist, and equip (1) parents to be the primary spiritual leaders of their students and (2) other adults to spiritually invest in and mentor students.
  8. Communicate and create opportunities for students to serve within NPC and reach out to people in the community in the name of Jesus Christ.
  9. Seek out students of NPC who are disconnected from NPC and SM in order to better serve, encourage, challenge, and help them grow to maturity in Jesus Christ.
  10. Develop and execute a strategy to reach out to non-Christian students in order to introduce them to the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
  11. Prepare annual budgets and maintain the SM budget and costs as approved by Session.
  12. Utilize technology to communicate to students as well as connect them with each other, SM events, NPC church as a whole, and to provide them with creative resources for spiritual growth.
  13. Plan and organize a summer missions trip.
  14. Plan and organize a student retreat at least once a year.
  15. Attend weekly staff meetings and contribute collaboratively to the staff team.
  16. Periodic preaching in main worship services (3-5x a year).
  17. Active participation in the life of the church outside of Student Ministry (options include attending, care groups, special events, Session meetings, etc.).

Desired Qualities

  1. Elder-quality character (1 Tim. 3:2-7).
  2. Commitment to the reformed faith and compatibility with NPC doctrinal views and values
  3. Hearty agreement with NPC mission statement and core values (see website)
  4. Ability to shape, lead and maintain a ministry utilizing volunteer leaders.
  5. Pastoral heart and counseling abilities.
  6. Teaching gifts.
  7. Heart to reach teens outside of Christ.
  8. Capacity to work joyfully with current church leadership.

Desired Qualifications

  1. A Bachelor’s degree preferred. Master’s or master’s degree in progress would be attractive.
  2. Ministry experience preferred.
